Secondary Curriculum

"Shaping future-ready global citizens through excellence in education, innovation in learning, and strength in values.”

We believe that today’s education system encompasses much more than merely understanding core subjects. The curriculum at Dr. Cyrus Poonawalla International School has a unique blend of the latest trends in education along with tried and proven methodologies. With an ever-evolving approach, DCPIS’s syllabus reflects the latest advances in the field of education while fostering the scholastic achievements of students.

Dr. Cyrus Poonawalla International School works within the framework of the CBSE curriculum, covering both scholastic and co-scholastic areas. Fine-tuned to benefit students, the educational framework at DCPIS adopts a holistic approach, ensuring growth at all levels. Children need not only to develop academically but also to acquire the skills required to thrive in the modern world. They must be able to face future challenges and contribute meaningfully to society. It is equally important for them to value themselves, recognize their abilities, and build meaningful relationships.

In addition to maintaining high academic standards, we focus on developing confidence and independent thinking. The inclusion of value education helps our students grow into sensitive and responsible individuals. Children are encouraged to participate in assemblies, concerts, and drama performances to build confidence in communicating with a wider audience. We recognize that each child is unique, with individual abilities, interests, aspirations, and expectations. Therefore, our curriculum is designed to encourage learners to become self-confident, self-reliant, and self-disciplined, enabling them to achieve their full potential. The school achieves this through a variety of curricular and co-curricular programmes.

In secondary classes, students build on the foundations laid in primary school. New challenges arise as communication, reasoning, problem-solving, and value judgment become more complex. Our aim is to provide a curriculum that facilitates in-depth study of key subjects such as English, Hindi, Mathematics, Science, Social Science, Art, Information Technology, Music, Dance, Physical Education, Yoga, and Health Education. A detailed curricular framework is developed, blending the Primary Programme with the CBSE curriculum, ensuring continuity and avoiding repetition.

Holistic Growth
Holistic education focuses on preparing students to face challenges in life as well as in their academic journey. Recognizing this need, the school strives to nurture all aspects of a child’s personality. At DCPIS, we promote all-round development and help shape well-rounded individuals. While academics form the core, co-curricular and extracurricular activities are given equal importance and sufficient time in the school timetable.

These activities help identify and nurture the innate talents of students while enhancing their attention span and communication skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing. They also build confidence essential for success in today’s world. Students are introduced to activities in a structured and progressive manner, guided by specialist teachers who ensure that creative pursuits complement academic learning.

Teaching Methodology
Learning materials are designed to cater to both teachers and students. Teachers act as facilitators, guiding students as they explore new concepts. Activities such as presentations, thought for the day, news updates, weather reports, quizzes, riddles, patriotic songs, and short skits are incorporated to promote awareness and engagement.

The school integrates modern technology to enhance learning, making it more interactive, effective, and enjoyable. Students are encouraged to collaborate with peers to build strong conceptual understanding.

Sports & Games
Sports education is designed to provide students with structured and enjoyable physical experiences. It complements academic learning by contributing significantly to overall personality development. A true sportsperson learns discipline, teamwork, and respect for rules.

Sports help inculcate qualities such as leadership, discipline, teamwork, honesty, tolerance, and sportsmanship. At DCPIS, we believe education extends beyond academics to holistic development. We promote physical fitness through a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities such as Football, Kabaddi, Volleyball, Skating, Horse Riding, Table Tennis, Rifle Shooting, Karate, Chess, Fencing, and Yoga.

Hobby Clubs
Hobby clubs provide students with opportunities to explore their interests, interact with peers, and develop new skills in a guided environment. Some clubs focus on specific areas, while others offer a variety of activities.

These clubs play a vital role in experiential learning, helping students develop leadership skills and decision-making abilities. At DCPIS, clubs such as Eco Club, Heritage & Tourism Club, Home Science Club, Art & Craft Club, Math Club, Robotics Club, Reading and Katha Club, Integrity Club, ICT Club, Drama Club, Music Club, and Quiz & Debate Club are formed as per CBSE guidelines. A wide range of activities is conducted during club sessions.

Creativity and Imagination (CCA)
SVYEMS encourages students to use their imagination and nurture curiosity through creative activities. Two co-curricular activities are conducted each month to showcase students’ talents. These activities are designed with both academic and creative objectives. Winners are recognized during PTMs and awarded at the Annual Prize Distribution ceremony.

Stress-Free Assessments
Assessment at DCPIS aligns with the updated CBSE pattern. The assessment methods, parameters, and tools are age-appropriate and designed to evaluate students effectively.

Assessments are diagnostic in nature, helping teachers identify areas that need improvement. Remedial measures are provided after every assessment. Regular Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs) ensure constructive communication with parents, focusing on the overall growth of students.

Performing Arts (Dance, Drama & Music)
Dance
Dance enhances creativity, discipline, and social interaction. It is an expressive art form that contributes to students’ cognitive, emotional, and physical development. We aim to instill a lifelong appreciation for dance while nurturing individual talent.

Music
Music plays a vital role in brain development, particularly in language and reasoning. It enriches students’ academic journey while also being an enjoyable activity. Music education helps develop rhythm, memory, and auditory skills while fostering cultural appreciation.

Art & Craft

Art education plays a crucial role in developing creativity and self-expression. At DCPIS, visual arts help bring imagination to life. Art activities enhance self-esteem, decision-making, and motor skills, while also improving hand-eye coordination. They foster emotional expression and aesthetic appreciation among students.

Self-Defence for Girls
Recognizing the importance of self-defence, the school provides structured training programmes for girls. These sessions promote physical fitness and build confidence to handle challenging situations.

Communication and Parent Involvement
DCPIS believes that strong communication between school and parents is essential for a child’s development. Regular PTMs are conducted to discuss academic progress and overall growth, ensuring a collaborative approach toward the child’s future.

Public Speaking
Students are encouraged to participate in public speaking activities to enhance their communication and leadership skills. Early exposure helps them develop into confident and effective speakers.

Social Awareness
We believe education prepares students for life. The school focuses on nurturing socially responsible citizens by involving students in activities such as visits to orphanages, old-age homes, and cleanliness drives, fostering empathy and awareness.

Field Trips
Field trips are organized in alignment with academic topics to provide practical exposure. Conducted twice a year, these visits to places like sugar factories, milk processing units, organic farms, and greenhouses enhance experiential learning.

Critical Thinking & Problem Solving
DCPIS promotes critical thinking through specialized programmes and teaching methods. Students are encouraged to identify problems, analyze situations, and develop effective solutions, building strong problem-solving skills.
